How to improve my workflow

Hi everyone!

I'm very new to music production and my current setup is 4 synths (VKeys, VSample, Monologue and Reface CS), all plugged into a Soundcraft Notepad 8 (for reference). This works fine when I record everything playing live into my DAW (currently Cakewalk) but I would love to be able to add more layers.

I know my mixer/interface only has one track but my idea would be to play one track and then record a new one at the same time. Problem is that the way everything is set up, my DAW's input and output are through the mixer using the USB, and that USB port also acts as a line in. This means that when I start recording that second track, it will also record the content of the first track in it.

Not sure if I'm using my gear incorrectly or if it's a limitation of my current setup. Would anyone know how I can achieve that?
