notation software as sequencer to drive synths

i have avid sibelius, and use it as a composer and arranger.

do any of you use notation software as a sequencer for your external hardware? I know daws have fairly sophisticated score editors, which many of us use... but i'm specifically wondering about starting with the score in the notation software as the UI and workflow.

i am having trouble with using sibelius with midi and/or over usb to my synths and haven't found any resources or tutorials (the manual is NOT helpful) on youtube of google, which surprised me

which is why decided to post this. am i missing somehow that this is common, or
