Good way to learn step sequencing?

Is there a cheap synth or drum machine you would recommend for learning how to program beats with a step sequencer? I mostly am in the box, but using a mouse for SS isn’t all that fun. I would be fine with something inexpensive and fun and selling it later. I don’t want to spend a lot for it, so it doesn’t have to sound amazing.
