Howdy! I’m always looking to see how I can pare down my setup to maximise creativity with only as much gear as I truly need to make the sounds I like.
I currently have a few things, but two of my main synths are the Rev2 and the BS2.
There’s lots I like about the Rev2, but I find it has a small sweet spot for what I like. I’ve grown to sort of dislike the filter, the arpeggiator is quite uninspiring, and the effects section leaves a lot to be desired. I like how immediate it is, and it is a lovely instrument to play.
The BSII is cool, but I don’t really like the patching experience, and - again - I find it has a small sweet spot for what I like.
All that in mind, I’ve been using Ableton’s Wavetable synth a lot more to make my sort of ‘workhorse’ sounds, but I still really value engaging with a physical instrument so I’m looking at maybe selling the Rev2 and the BSII to go towards a Peak or Summit.
The better effects section, more interesting arpeggiator, wavetable capabilities, and more versatile filter section has me fancying the Peak/Summit.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, especially if you’ve had a similar experience!
