Any recommendations on a gateway synth to get me into the hobby?

Hi guys, this is my first time posting here but I’ve lurked the subreddit occasionally and I think I’m ready to pull the trigger on my first synth. I’m looking for something affordable that won’t be too overwhelming to learn on but also won’t be low quality or have a lot of limitations. Something in the sweet spot of a couple hundred to a thousand dollars max would be ideal.

A little about me and what I’m trying to do. I’m looking for something I can play at home as a hobby and eventually want to venture into the world of writing and producing my own music. I have experience playing piano over the years so a synthesizer with a larger keyboard would be a plus for me but not a requirement. I also have no experience with DAW’s so if you have any recommendations here, or if certain synths synergize well with a certain DAW then I’d love to hear about it.

I’ve read that different synths may be better for creating different genres of music. I’m interested in lots of genres but lean towards disco, chill wave, house, and hip hop. I’d love to be able to sample and remix other songs if that’s an option as well.

So guys, please let me know if you think a certain synth would be a good fit for me! It’s pretty overwhelming making such a big decision with no experience ?
