Sends, Returns, and Aux - My Brain Hurts

Coming from the DAW world, I can set up a single instance of an effect and have it work on several different tracks.

Now, that's digital and I can't see what's happening behind the scenes. Just computer magic making things work.

Is something like this possible in the real world?

Let's say I get the WMD performance mixer and attach a reverb to the (send or aux or whatever, I don't know). Then I put 3 different voices through the reverb. Are those voices summed together coming out of the reverb? Or does some voodoo happen and each voice gets it's own reverb?

I've seen a ton of explanations online, but none make sense to me. I'd kind of like to work it out theoretically before spending money on a mixer, or multiple copies of an effect, or whatever is required.

Thanks in advance!
