Odd question. Does anyone know why resonance became a synth parameter?

Odd question. Does anyone know why resonance became a synth parameter?

Most of the early synth parameters make sense for emulating acoustic instruments. They are sort of obvious things you would add if you wanted to make an instrument that could sound like any other. Resonance less so. Yes it is sometimes useful for acoustic emulation but its usually an extra spice rather than the heart of an emulation patch. If you look at it from an electronics stand point, adding a pot to the panel to let you control a feedback path in the filter also seems like a left-field choice. Anyone if someone has the history on this i'm curious.
