Funnest Synth or best happy accidents machine?

I watch probably too many Synth review videos on YouTube, but I’m struck that perhaps the criteria for someone that reviews tons of synths all the time are perhaps different than what would help me simply have some fun making noise in my free time.

For example, Novation Peak looks amazing, much GAS flaring, but perhaps better suited to a sound designer? On the other hand, I’m thinking about the Mylar vid about DFAM where he just talks so much about how that thing is a pure idea machine, tons of happy accidents etc.

So what are the machines that you just turn them on and start the fuckery ASAP? Or the machines that seem to yield the most fruitful sessions more often than not?

Does it come down to some concrete features? A good sequencer? Randomize patch function? Or is it more a general gestalt thing? A lot of people talk about sp404 just having “that thing” (technically not a synth).

You know what I’m poking at here? What are the machines that are rewarding? Hard to walk away from? Productive?
