Why is the Korg DS-8 so obscure?

The DW8000 and DX7 are both legendary.

I don't know much about this synth and haven't heard anything spectacular. But it seems like a perfect combination.

So 2 part question: 1) is it that limited 2) could it be modded to not be limited?
