Good Beginners Guides?

I recently purchased my first synth and I was wondering if there are any good break downs explaining what everything actually does? Whilst I am having fun just messing around and creating weird sounds, I will sometimes have a sound in my head that I want to reproduce but won't really have any idea of how to replicate it. Or I'll want to play along with a song but have no idea how to get my synth to sound in any way similar to what I'm hearing. I understand the difference between monophonic and polyphonic, but that's about as far as my knowledge goes. I have a Korg Monologue if that matters. Thanks!
