Concerns about TD-3

I am thinking about buying a TD-3 because it is the only synth that is interesting for me and within my price range. I know that it is almost the exact same clone of Roland TB-303 which is often used for acid/house/techno. One of my concerns is all the sound demos of it sound very similar to me. I know it has a very distinc and iconic sound but i wonder if it is possible to expand the usage possibilities of the synth. For example is it possible to make a brutal darksynth bassline without being too weird?
