The way I'm imagining it working would be having a sequencer send note pitch data (triggered or sequenced) on a MIDI channel to "something" that can send a SysEx message to devices that would likely be on a different MIDI channels than the sequencer.
Of course I would need to find a way to correspond incoming pitches with the correct SysEx message, but essentially the process would be something like:
- C4 on Channel 1 sends Message A to device X on Channel 3
- C#4 on Channel 1 sends Message B to device Y on Channel 4
- D4 on Channel 1 sends Message C to device Z on Channel 5
And so on and so forth...
For context, I would be using the melodic sequencer on Beatstep Pro so it would be locked to a specific MIDI channel when sending MIDI out, but I'm trying to see if I can find "something" that can send out to different channels while only receiving on one other channel. If I wouldn't be able to, then I would just need to switch the MIDI channel on the Beatstep Pro to match the destination device channel, but if I can somehow manage independent send/receive channels then that would allow me to multiply the amount of available options by 16 by selecting different channels on the Beatstep Pro.
Has anyone else had a similar use case or found anything that works well? Let me know if I can clarify anything...
