Really good sequencer plugins in Ableton (or any DAW for that matter)

I know every DAW has its own sequencer but I'm interesting in suggestions for sequencer plugins that create really interesting patterns, variations, generative type stuff.

There are loads of hardware sequencers that do cool thing - Squarp Hapax etc - but would love a plugin that can mess with VSTs or external hardware in a similar way (if that makes sense)
