Yamaha DX7 Prototype??

I have just acquired a 1983 Yamaha DX7, The boards are all dated to 1983 but most of the components date to 1982... Then when I went to check the serial number on the back, There isn't one. Its not scratched off or covered, Just blank...

This leads me to think its an incredibly early example of a DX7, If not a prototype.

What are your opinions on this??

Cheers! Smile)
