TR-8 to pedals = low signal

When I run my tr8 line into my pedals the volume gets cut hard. I ran it through a ds1 and the volume gets cut to ~10% when the effect is on. I used an od1 and the volume gets cut by half with the effect on and off.

I understand its because of line/instrument level and ive seen some people suggest a DI or a reamp box. But ive also seen people just up their preamp. Ive also seen people just buy line level compatible pedals. Ive also seen people say they have no issues. Was just wondering what everyones take on it is. Should i just buy a reamp or should i just choose compatible pedals etc etc.

Tl;dr what's your setup with guitar pedals?
