Problem of with bass station ii midi in

Having a problem with using my daw to sequence my bsii

I have everything setup correctly as far as the daw and the midi interface, i know this because if i take the midi cable and plug it into my roland synthesizer, everything works as intended. But then plug it back into the bs2 and nothing..

I wouldnt be posting this if i hadnt gone through the manual first, but this is pretty frustrating. Is there a setting im missing? Im on the right midi channel, local turned on or off doesnt make a difference. It does send midi out, but midi in is just not working
