Phase synchronization on startup?

Suppose we have two oscillators playing at the same frequency, say 432Hz. If we start up these two oscillators at even a slightly different time, their phase will be out of sync and because it's the same frequency they'll never be in sync… In this instance, we could just do a hard sync.

But then if you were to have an oscillator at a different frequency, say a fifth up, then the hard sync would cause timbres that are not wanted in this case.

So what do people usually do in this scenario?
