Recording soft synths into octatrack

I was thinking of buying on octatrack. I don't own any hardware synthesizers and produce everything on Ableton and on my ipad using soft synths. If I got an octatrack, is it possible to connect it to my ipad or to Ableton and record stuff from Serum, diva etc. into the octatrack directly to mangle and sequence it on the octatrack, similar to how it would be if I connected it to hardware synths? Or do I need to record the sample, save, export, copy it to the cfast card and put it into the octatrack? If that's the case it's not worth buying one for me.
