Guitarist wants to learn: Piano, or Synth?

I do not know how to play the piano. I am going to be buying a basic keyboard to start learning. However, my taste in music has lead me to believe that perhaps a keyboard is not what I want, but a synth is.

At the moment I am very excited to start, sounds from Tame Impala and MGMT being some of my inspiration.

What do you think, should I buy a synth and start learning on that, or should i buy a keyboard instead?

I understand there may be bias towards the synth given where I'm posting, but I want to know if anyone has found themselves in a similar situation.
