A Little help setting up an external MIDI with my MicroKorg please?

Last week I bought a MicroKorg Synth but the keys are all messed up, some don't work and some are even broken. I Was trying to connect my Novation Launchkey to the synth via MIDI but i seem to be lacking some hardware. I got a Midi to USB Cable but it doesn't work. My question is, is it possible to use the Launchkey to replace the MicroKorg keyboard. Can I use it to control the keyboard via external MIDI (the MicroKorg has MIDI IN/OUT/THRU) and what pieces of hardware do i need?
