Good beginner sequencer/sampler machines for recording electronic drum set?

Drum machines are cool, but are there beginner sequencers/samplers that can record electronic instruments like an alesis drum set? I'm a drummer, so it would be cool to create loops of my own drum beats, then record like synth loops on top of those. I don't know how realistic this is though, I don't really know much about synths and stuff yet.
