Making a Melody With BeatStep Pro and Korg Volca Possible?

Hi everyone! I've been trying to figure out a way to make melodies with my BeatStep pro controlling my volca sample. I've been able to make them on the sample itself using the note change (Selecting the sample then using func + speed to change the note). I've been having a hell of a time doing it on my BeatStep pro. If any one has figured it out or has some workaround please enlighten me. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure it out.
