Manufacturer Horror Story: Sognage + Maelstrom "Stereo" Reverb

<!-- SC_OFF --><div class="md"><p>I wanted to have a <strong>Stereo</strong> Reverb with a modest footprint in my case.</p> <p>Audio Damage Æverb Mk2 is almost impossible to come by,<br/> so my second choice turned out to be the <strong>Sognage Maelstrom</strong>. </p> <p>The order+shipping process was super great and fast.<br/> The build quality of this module is absolutely PREMIUM.</p> <p>When it arrived I boasted to my friends &quot;this is the highest quality module I've ever owned&quot;.</p> <p>--</p> <p>My first nightmare was due to a reversed ribbon cable (with regards to the quasi-universal nature of shrouded headers in eurorack).<br/> This was quickly resolved by crimping a new IDC connector myself. Luckily the module was not damaged (again top-tier build quality). </p> <p>During this mishap I reached out to Sognage in earnest. Hopefully they will take note and start producing cables that are consistent with the rest of the major manufacturers. I was met with a verbose response that claimed I don't know what I'm talking about. I only mention this because a pattern emerges throughout our exchange. </p> <p>--</p> <p>The real nightmare began when I tested the module. Why doesn't the Right side act the same as the Left side? I reached out again, only to receive another verbose &quot;you don't know what you're doing&quot; response.</p> <p>But they used a key phrase that tingled my spidey sense -- &quot;this is how the stereo effect is achieved&quot;.<br/> Wait, I thought this was a Stereo Reverb, not a Stereo Effect Reverb....</p> <p><strong>This module is an implementation of one</strong> <a href="http://www.belton.co.kr/inc/downfile.php?seq=15&amp;file=pdf"><strong>Accutronics BTDR-3</strong></a> <strong>reverb chip.</strong></p> <p>The pinout of this chip only has one input.</p> <p>&quot;Stereo&quot; implementation requires summing to the single input pin.</p> <p>--</p> <p>Am I wrong in feeling that this is indeed not a True Stereo Reverb?</p> <p>The design uses &quot;Tricks&quot; to mimic a Stereo &quot;Effect&quot;.</p> <p>This module is being misrepresented, full stop.</p> <p>I have been &quot;Tricked&quot; and I want to send the module back. </p> <p>--</p> <p>They are expecting me to cover shipping back to South Africa (from the US), and I suspect they will not refund my original shipping charges ($50).
